FMHS is honored to introduce our new clinician,
Sarah Medzyk, MS, LMFT!
Sarah brings a calm, compassionate, and humorous wisdom to their work as a fully Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the state of California (151637). She obtained her BA in Psychology and her Masters at CSU Bakersfield. She specializes in working with the LGBTQ+ community, including sex therapy, identity formation, non monogamy, kink, dating anxiety, safe sex and dating education, and life transitions, and is well versed in treating anxiety and depression related disorders.
“I utilize a primarily narrative, psychoeducational style with my clients. I find that we all hold stories from our past that are no longer relevant to who we are today or how we want to live our lives, and retelling and reforming those stories can be transformative.
My ideal client is motivated and interested in gaining insight into the 'why' of their long held relational and behavioral patterns that are now causing them distress or discomfort.”
What made you become a therapist?
I have struggled with depression and anxiety from a young age. When I first attempted to seek help, my experience with my first therapist was, looking back, a train-wreck. I told myself that someone should do better than that-- and when I was able to, I became that person. I hope to provide a caring, supportive environment for my clients that allows them to explore both the things that are difficult and the things that bring them joy.
What is it like to work with you as a therapist?
I have a more conversational, casual style in session but I am not afraid to ask the hard questions. I tend to be flexible on appointment times but do only have evenings and weekends available at this time. You will likely meet my pets over telehealth and I'd love to meet yours!
What is Sex Therapy?
Sex therapy is a form of talk-therapy that can help you with a broad range of emotional and psychological goals related to sexual health and function. From discussing consent, boundaries, overcoming sexual trauma, understanding your sexual thoughts, feelings, and sensations, to psychoeducation on sexual health and function, and exploring gender and sexual identities. While we do not offer couple’s counseling, this form of individual therapy can certainly help your connection with yourself and others! To read more about it, click here.
